An effective natural treatment for Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, which lie, on each side of the throat. Chronic tonsillitis refers enlargement of the tonsils accompanied by recurrent infection. Inflamed tonsils are red in color and in many cases spots of pus exude from them. It is accompanied with general weakness fever, sore throat, headache, pain and difficulty in swallowing.
Lime is one of the best treatments for acute tonsillitis. One fresh lime squeezed in a glass of warm water, with four teaspoons of honey should be sipped slowly in such cases for a fast effect.
Banafsha flowers, botanically famous as Viola odorata, are much beneficial in the treatment of tonsillitis. About 10 gm of these flowers boiled in 50 ml of milk. This warm milk should be taken after being filtered. The filtered banafsha can also be lightly fried in butter and worn round the throat as a poultice is also very effective.
The patient should avoid spices and flavorers as they tend to irritate the throat. Sour substances like buttermilk, yoghurt and fried foods should also be avoided.
A gargle made from fenugreek seeds is fond to be very effective in severe cases of tonsillitis. Fr that take two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and allow it to simmer for half an hour in a liter of water and then set aside to cool. The entire quantity must be used the same day as a soothing gargle. Salt water is also used for gargling, and this found to be effective for throat problems.
Fever, body pain, headache and general weakness are part of this disease. The tonsils are seen to be inflamed and red in most cases, spots of pus exude from them.
The most consistent and important uses are as a demulcent (soothing and coating agent) in the digestive and urinary tracts. It is therefore very helpful in lungs and soothes sore throats. The demulcent and anti-ulcerogenic action of licorice is also beneficial in gastric and duodenal ulcers.
