Causes of Dark Circles
Dark circles are a fact of life, at some point we all get them. Some days we look in the mirror and the skin beneath our eyes looks normal and healthy. Other days when we look in the mirror we the skin under our eyes is dark making us look old and tired. We just have to learn how to live with them
Determining the cause of the dark circles under your eyes is the first step to making sure you don’t see them the next time you look into the mirror.
Exhaustion
The most common cause of dark circles is lack of sleep. When you are tired your skin usually grows a little paler, the paler your skin gets, the more visible the network of veins under your eyes becomes. When this is the cause of the dark circles under your eyes you should try going to bed on or two hours earlier each night until the circles vanish.
Hormones
Some women seem to be prone to getting dark circles under their eyes when they are having their menstrual cycle or if they are pregnant. The theory is that the change in the woman’s hormones causes her skin to become a shade or two paler.
Diet
If you have suddenly noticed that there are dark circles under your eyes but you don’t feel tired and you know you aren’t pregnant maybe you should take a look at your diet. Sometimes the dark circles are nothing more than your body warning you that you need to eat a better balanced diet.
Genetics
Some of us are just genetically prone to dark circles under our eyes. We are born with pale, translucent skin and the circles just become a part of life. The older you get the more prominent the dark circles become.
Hiding the Dark Circles
The one nice thing bout dealing with the dark circles is that they are fairly easy to treat. You can use some makeup, usually concealer or blush, to cover the dark circles, or if you have time place a slice of cucumber over each eye for fifteen minutes.
