Correct Diet for Heart disease

  • As the number of people suffering from heart ailments is constantly on the rise, it is desirable to educate yourself with the symptoms of this disease and the preventive measures one should take to escape this disease that may prove to be fatal at times. There are many symptoms to indicate the oncoming attack.

    Breathlessness, discomfort in the chest that causes sever pain to shoulders, jaw, or arms, prolonged squeezing sensation in the middle of the chest are all important symptoms of an attack.

    The cause of an attack is an obstruction, usually due to the formation of a clot, to the flow of blood. Blood flow through the blood vessel is obstructed due to a clot. It calls for immediate medical aid; else it may prove to be deadly. As such early heart conditions, like the formation of plaque, high levels of cholesterol or blood pressure should not be ignored and need to be treated at the earliest.

    To keep heart disease at bay, strict diet control is of paramount importance. A proper diet coupled with increased intake of water is largely helpful in reducing the chances of an attack.  Vegetarian diet is considered far better. Fruits and raw vegetables, especially in the form of salads are beneficial as they are able to retain all the health giving enzymes.

    Green and leafy vegetables of the spinach family are good.  Other fiber-rich vegetables like peas, cabbage and beans are beneficial for heart.  Fatty acids present in nuts are good for heart as they help to maintain clear arteries.

    Other good sources of essential fatty acids are oils derived from olives and flax seeds.  It is good to consume more of leafy vegetables, soybean, olives, plant oils and fish, which are all rich sources of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. The diet should have a high amount of fiber as fibers help to control the cholesterol levels much better than a diet that is low in fat and cholesterol.

    Incorporate the use of olive oils in salads. Tomato is another vegetable good for the heart because of the presence of lycopene, which reduces the risk of heart disease by preventing blood platelets from sticking together.

    Apart from improved healthy diet and more consumption of water, it is very important to go for long, brisk walks or mild exercises regularly. Basically it involves a changed lifestyle that is not stressful.
