Depression and Natural Remedies

  • Depression is a mental state of a person at any point of time; the depressed person shows a lot of pessimism and inadequacy. His body and mind show negativity. This is not to be considered as a disease; this is an illness where a person lacks complete confidence in doing things. Since the person is depressed, he finds it difficult to do his daily chores confidently. He is unhappy and affected mentally and emotionally though not physically.

    Depression might have resulted either because of mental stress or because of ingesting too much antibiotics. Sometimes anxiety causes depression. Leading a monotonous life also could cause depression. Some of the home remedies for curing depression are as follows.

    Natural Remedies for Depression
    Add petals of rose in one glass of water that is boiling; add sugar and drink it. Mix one eighth tsp of powdered nutmeg and one tbsp of fresh amla juice; take this mixture three times a day. Drink one to three cups of Licorice tea everyday.

    5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is taken out from the pods of the woody climbing shrub, Griffonia simplicifolia and taking this will relieve depression. Eat an apple and drink milk with honey. Neutral immersion bath is given for about one hour at a temperature of 26º C to 28º C and this is the normal body temperature. This cures depression.

    Take 1-2 gm of powdered asparagus root to cure depression. Prepare tea using quarter tsp of basil and half tsp of sage for each cup of water; drink twice a day. Powder two green cardamoms; add sugar to it. Put this mixture in one cup full of hot water and drink this when it is still warm.

    Diet that is well balanced makes you less depressed. Eat nuts, apple-cider vinegar, cheese, carrot juice, pumpkin seeds, 5-6 plums, apple juice, and mixture of cumin and Ruta leaves. Cook three to four tbsp of oatmeal in one cup of either rice milk/ soy milk; add nuts, dried fruits, almonds, honey or maple syrup.

    Boil water in a cup with one tsp of lavender leaves. Drink three times daily when it is warm. Take hot water in a tub; add rosemary leaves, soap and chlorine to it. Soak your feet in this water for twenty minutes. Wipe your feet.
