Diet for Asthma

Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by wheezing; usually of allergic origin. It is an allergic condition ensuing from the reaction of the body to one or more allergens, and is the most difficult of respiratory diseases. An asthma patient gets frequent attacks of short drawn breath, in between which he may even be completely normal.

Asthma Patients have more difficulty in breathing out than breathing in, and this is usually caused by spasms or sudden involuntary muscular contractions of the smaller air passages in the lungs.

Honey is found to be good for treatment for asthma. It is said that if a jug of honey is kept under the nose of an asthma patient and if he inhales the air that comes into contact with it, helps in breathing easier and deeper.

Certain fruits like figs have proved very valuable in asthma. They give ease to the patient by draining off the sputum. Three or four dry figs must be cleaned thoroughly with warm water and soaked overnight is much beneficial.

Indian gooseberry has proved to be valuable in asthma. Five grams of Indian gooseberry mixed with one tablespoon of honey makes an effective medicinal tonic for the treatment of asthma.

Lemon is a valuable fruit found beneficial in the treatment of asthma. The juice of one lemon, diluted in a cup of water and taken with meals, will bring good results.

The patient must avoid foods which tend to produce phlegm, such as rice, lentils, sugar, lentils, and yoghurt.

The patient must avoid oily, greasy and junk foods. It is better to consume easy to digest foods.

Alcoholic beverages, strong tea, sauces, condiments, pickles, and all refined and processed foods must be avoided.
