Dysphagia – A Swallowing Disorder

Dysphagia is a condition in which swallowing is difficult or painful. Losing weight and change in voice are also found with this disease. Cause of dysphagia can be due to damaged muscles and nerves used for swallowing. People suffering from Parkinson’s disease may also have problems while swallowing. An accident or stroke may also affect the muscle that may constrain the mouth and throat movement. An irritation or infection also could narrow the esophagus.

Some inborn defects of the mouth lead to inability to suck. You feel like the food stuck in the esophagus which can be extremely discomforting. In this disease even swallowing liquids can become troublesome. Eating becomes a test with this condition.

Always wash your face with warm water to soothe the muscles and use only warm water to ash your mouth.

Gargle with warm water mixed with a teaspoon salt and lime juice several times daily. This will draw out fluids from the inflamed throat thus by relieving discomfort.

One of the most effective methods for curing dysphagia is the use of lime. Take half of a fresh lime squeezed in a glass of warm water with two teaspoons of honey and little bit salt. Sip the juice slowly and frequently several times a day.

One tablespoon of slippery elm powder with one cup of water taken three to four times a day is quite effective for cuing the disease.
