Five Steps for a Better Body

  • A better body is a body whose functionality is good both from the inside and outside, and it is your right to achieve this body by exercising. Although it might take time, the effort is well worth it because of the rewards you will achieve. As a result, it will make you look at things and project yourself positively. The following steps will help in assessing your current status and what you would like to be in future:

    1) Heart-related exercises – these exercises are either cardiovascular or aerobic training such as walking, swimming or running.  They are useful in building strong lungs and heart muscles; they also are helpful in controlling your weight and toning your muscles.

    2) Muscle building – activities such as running and walking will no doubt tone up your muscles but at the same time, you tend to lose muscle because of the aerobic exercise. Since your objective is to look attractive on the outside, it is necessary for you to build muscles also. You could do weight lifting exercises for strengthening your muscles.

    3) Eating for living – you require a balanced diet that will maintain your body in the right shape. This means that you must eat protein, carbohydrates and fat in right quantities. Follow the program strictly for your balanced diet.

    4) Rest – when you do exercises, you are wearing out your body and it is essential to rest for building it. Too much rest or exercise is not good. People who are over 30 years old must rest at least 24 hours after doing exercises that are strenuous; hence it is essential that you stop exercising for a day or two during the week. In addition, you must also rest on a daily basis.

    5) Continue exercises and reap the benefits – most people are enthusiastic when starting; however, they discontinue midway. A fitness regimen is not for short term; it requires a commitment for life. As an incentive for continuance of these exercises, you may take a day off or buy new clothing, etc.

You may start your exercising program after the completion of a minimum of three weeks weight loss program; otherwise, cut your exercise to 20 min/day for a period of three weeks from the starting date. This is necessary because the body must get used to dissipating energy/ fat before you start a full, rigorous exercising program.

If your BMI is greater than 30, consult your doctor and select the right type of exercise suitable to you.
