Hello and greetings from Ayurvediccure.com
Thyroid is the main gland in human body which controls metabolism rate. In hypothyroidism the secretions or hormone secreted by thyroid gland decrease and metabolic rate of body also decreases. This fall in metabolic rate develops laziness, body becomes fat and puffy, heart rate falls, person feels out of energy and sleepy all the time. Its treatment includes hormone therapy. But in Ayurveda the herbal medicine Ashwagandha proves to be really very effective in the treatment of hypothyroidism. Regular use of this medicine relieves the person from laziness and regenerates energy in body. It helps in increasing metabolic rate and reduces puffiness from body. So we recommend you to use this medicine regularly for satisfactory results.

Thank you for your help will follow your advice.
So Dr. are you saying that if a person suffering from hypothyroidism and takes Ashwagandha, will no longer have to take Synthroid (the popular hormone therapy). Is there any herbal remedy that can re-activate the under active thyroid gland back to normal?
Hello JIgnesh
Ashwagandha is the medicine of choice for thyroid problem and many patients have marvelous results with ashwagandha only. In some severe cases one needs to depend on hormonal pills but in those cases also ashwagandha if used regular show satisfactory improvement.

how2 use this Aswagandha/ can u please clarify the dosage??
Hello Anil
you should start with Ashwagandha one capsule in the morning and one in the evening after meals with water. You can also increase the dose if required from one capsule twice a day to two capsules twice a day. This is herbal medicine and is completely safe. Regular course will give very good results. Further queries are welcome.

Advanced safe natural therapies now offer effective relief from symptoms and restore functional and hormonal balances.
I have been diagnosed with sub clinical hypothyorid. I would like to avoid the hormone therapy option. I am currently on homeopathy. How much dosage of Ashwagandha would be required for tsh of 6.5, free t4 also is slightly below the normal range. I was told since it is diagnosed early, i can be treated with thyronorm so it doesnt worsen and would also help me loosing weight. Also mostly likely it is the antobodies being the reason for this! Any one knows why all of a sudden your own antibodies does a U turn and mess up the hormones that elevate TSH? Can i continue with homeopathy and Ashwagandha?Any particular brand available in India?I have been taking homeopathy since 3 months, hasnt made much difference in tsh, Also started gymming so feeling much better interms of lethargy etc!! Is Hypothyroid irreversable? Would really appreciate a reply. Thank you.
Hello sangeeta

Thank you for the valueable info. Would also like to check is this is sufficient to control tsh levels in pregnancy? I have been told to lower the tsh level to 2 and after conception doses will be adjusted to ensure it there is no effect on the child! is the same possible with the doses of Ashwagandha you have mentioned? or i should take this and wait to see if i am relieved of hypo and then consider pregnancy? Even though the result may vary from person to person, ideally what would be the time frame before i can start to see results. Thank you.
Hello sangeeta
We recommend you to take a regular course of Ashwagandha for about one month and undergo blood test again to check the effect of medicine. Adjust your doses accordingly to get best results. Ashwgandha is safe and powerful medicine to control TSH levels and it is effective in pregnancy also. You will have a good result with in two three months.

I have sub acute thyroiditis – it was hyperthyroid – then it quit all together in the healing process of my thyroid exploding after I had a sinus infection; now I have hypothyroid. I feel like my body is on a roller coaster. Can I take this supplement and my current thyroids MEDS (leviothyroxine)?
Hello joann
A person with hypothyroidism has obesity, low heartbeat, laziness and other low metabolic rate related problems. You should take proper medication to keep your thyroid under control. We recommend you to start with Ashwagandha capsules with your medication as a supportive medicine to achieve better control. Slowly you can shift over to this herbal medicine only and even if you are taking both the medicines together, there is no any side effect of these medicines. So keep your course regular and start working out in gym to reduce your weight quickly.

Thankyouuu so much!!! Its been a month and a half since i started taking Ashwagandha and i never thought that the feeling of being tired would go away!! after taking it for ten days, i felt better in terms of more activeness , less tiredness. Rechecked tsh and ft3 and ft4, all in the normal range. Since last 10 days even the crampiness in legs have reduced considerably. Have also lost 6kgs! The feeling of being lethargic was the worst ever! Hoping tsh levels stay below 3. ALso if you could pls let me know, my antibodies test results were negative, even though the Edocrinologist was sure its the antibodies causing hypothyroid, what could be the reason for having a sub clinical hypo? is it only genes (considering there’s a major family history of hypo) or there are other factors to contribute to this (since antibodies test is negative) Thank you. Warm Regards.
Hypothyroidism is treated with the levorotatory forms of thyroxine (L-T4) and triiodothyronine (L-T3). Both synthetic and animal-derived thyroid tablets are available and can be prescribed for patients in need of additional thyroid hormone.
