  • Stress is one of the most common ailments of modern times that seems to have become an unavoidable part of life. Stress is considered to be the body’s natural defense mechanism against various external factors such as tension, increased work pressure and hectic lifestyles. In controlled amounts it is extremely beneficial as it keeps you motivated and drives you towards achieving your goals.

But when stress begins to overtake your life it can result in various problems such as depression, irritability, frustration, headache, migraines, lack of concentration, insomnia, anxiety and decreased productivity at professional, social and personal levels. Stress is considered to be a silent killer and can result in serious ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, obesity and arthritis.

Stress cannot be avoided but it can certainly be reduced in order to live a healthier life. All you need to do is bring about some changes in your lifestyle and diet plan and take out time for relaxation on a daily basis to beat stress.

How to manage stress in a healthy manner?

Relax: If you are looking to get rid of day to day stress, you must take out at least one hour on a daily basis for relaxing your mind and body. Meditation, yoga and deep breathing exercises can be performed at any point of time to get rid of stress. You can also go in for joining a stress management center or join a social group wherein you can make new friends and enable your body to cope with stress.

Exercise: Exercising also helps deal with stress effectively. It stimulates the release of endorphins or the body’s natural stress reduction hormones. Mild forms of exercise such as walking, jogging, bicycling, skipping and swimming are great stress busters. Playing outdoor games such as volleyball, basket ball, badminton, tennis etc. can also help alleviate stress.

    Herbal remedies:

Wild yam is a herbal remedy that is highly beneficial for alleviating stress.  It is native to the eastern United States and is a potent muscle relaxant and hormonal tonic. It helps the body adapt to daily life stressors naturally. Wild Yam can be taken as herbal supplement or as tea for best results.
