Herbal remedies for happy feet

Our feet work really hard and carry us everywhere throughout the hectic day. But for most of us, taking care for our feet comes only secondary to our face. We might be spending hours in front of the mirror trying to fix up those wrinkles or striving to get a blemish-free complexion, but tend to neglect our feet, not realizing that others definitely pay attention to them, even if we do not.

Our feet are exposed to a tremendous amount of pressure and strain. As a result of this daily wear and tear they are prone to developing a number of problems such as calluses, smelly feet or broken toe nails. Whichever ways, unkempt feet speak volumes about your personal hygiene and can cause a great deal of embarrassment on more than one occasion.

Common feet woes:

Calluses: A callus is a mass of thick and hardened dead skin cells accumulated in an area exposed to repeated contact, mostly on our hands and feet. Calluses can develop due to inappropriate padding in the shoes or because of an incorrect style of walking or running. Calluses might not be harmful, but can certainly irritate and embarrass you.

Smelly Feet: This is one of the most common problems faced by thousands of people across the globe and can be very embarrassing. We get smelly feet because of perspiration that is unable to escape the shoes. This causes the moisture to combine with the body warmth and gives rise to a breeding ground for the growth of microorganisms. The action of bacteria and fungi that grow and multiply within our shoes gives us smelly feet.

Herbal remedies for the feet:

There are various herbal remedies that can be used to treat foot problems. They are quite effective and do not have any side effects.

Calluses can be treated by applying castor oil over the affected area.

Take 1 tbsp of Epsom salt and add it to hot water. Soak your feet in this solution for 20 minutes.  When the skin softens, use a pumice stone to scrub the calluses and apply a generous amount of calendula herbal cream on your feet.

Home remedies are also effective in curing feet odor. Add a pinch of baking soda and 2 tsp of vinegar to a bucket of water and soak your feet in it for at least a week to lessen foot odor.

Wash your feet with green tea and roam around barefoot for some time. This will allow the feet to breathe.
