    Herbs for treating Insomnia:
Insomnia can be treated by making some changes in your lifestyle such as giving up smoking, decreasing the intake of caffeine, avoiding alcohol and late nights. Regular exercise, intake of a well balanced diet, relaxation and recreation also help treat this disorder. In addition to this, there are various herbal remedies available to treat insomnia and induce sleep.

Valerian or valeriana officinalis is a multi-purpose herb that is very effective in treating insomnia. It helps induce sleep, lowers blood pressure, relieves tension and anxiety and reduces intestinal pain. Valerian is highly beneficial for individuals suffering from insomnia as it provides adequate rest and does not cause morning sickness. It is safe to use and is void of any addictive properties. You can take this herb in the form of tea or as tincture.

Chamomile or chamaemelum nobile is widely recommended for insomnia. It helps relax the mind and treats anxiety, indigestion and spasms. It is best to take chamomile tea before going to bed.

Passion flower or passiflora incarnate is another powerful herb recommended for treating insomnia. It helps induce sleep, has a calming effect on the individual, releases muscular spasm and relieves pain. A compound found in this herb called hamine activates a pensive state of mind and ecstasy. It is advisable to use this herb in tincture form about 45 minutes before retiring to bed.

Ashwagandha or Winter cherry is a popular herb that is widely used in traditional medicines to treat insomnia, anxiety and stress. It can be used by both men as well as women to relax the mind and attain sound sleep. Ashwagandha dietary supplements are available in the form of herbal capsules and can be taken on a daily basis to promote sleep.
