The former type of cough is associated with the expulsion of mucus, whereas the latter is completely dry. This type of cough causes a great deal of irritation and can be healed by taking various home remedies.

    Cough can be caused by various infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract such as flu, sinusitis, allergies, tuberculosis, changes in atmospheric pressure, seasonal changes, bronchitis, pneumonia or exposure to air pollution. In order to treat cough, it is best for you to get a proper diagnosis and get the underlying condition treated.

    Home remedies for treating dry cough: Various natural remedies are available for treating dry cough. Before heading for the drug store to grab a bottle of cough syrup, it is better for you to look in your kitchen cabinet for some herbs and spices to treat dry cough.

    Ginger and honey syrup: Extract the juice of 1 ginger and mix it with 3 tbsp of honey. Dilute this mixture with water and take it thrice a day to get rid of cough.

    Garlic: This is a valuable herb that is found in most households. Boil 3 to 4 cloves of garlic in milk and drink it before going to bed.

    Turmeric: Another valuable herb that is widely used as a flavoring agent is turmeric. Take ½ tsp of fresh turmeric powder and add it to a glass of warm milk. Drink this twice a day to get relief from cough.

    Herbal tea: Take 1 inch ginger root and grate it. Add 1 clove of garlic and the juice of 1 lemon to it. Boil all the ingredients in a cup of water for 20 minutes. Strain in a cup and add honey to this infusion. Sip it while it is hot for getting relief from cough.
