Home Treatment of Belching
The process of gas being released from the digestive tract through the mouth is called belching. It is also called burping and the correct medical term for it is eructation. It is very common and occurs in all people (from babies to mature adults).
Belching not only includes a distinctive sound, but also a foul odor as well. Once the belching/burping sound comes out, an odor (usually associated with some food that has been eaten recently) presents itself afterward.
The intent of belching is to expel excess air that is causing discomfort in the abdomen. Many people belch intentionally to prevent any type of abdominal pain that might occur. Releasing the excess gas usually makes them feel better.
Ingesting food or drink too fast, drinking carbonated drinks, drinking alcoholic (carbonated) drinks and intestinal or gastrointestinal disorders
