  • The skin is the biggest organ of the body and is made up of three layers. The outermost layer is known as the epidermis and is composed of dead skin cells. It constantly keeps renewing itself and is also making a substance called melanin which gives your skin its color. The second layer beneath the epidermis is the dermis which comprises of blood vessels and oil glands. The bottom layer of the skin is called the subcutaneous layer and is made up of fat and helps your body stay warm and absorbs shocks. The skin regenerates itself after every 27 days and demands regular pampering and care. There is nothing as attractive as a flawless skin and a blemish free complexion that can be attained by following a regular skin care routine.

Oily skin can be really problematic and is prone to the development of a number of skin woes such as enlarged pores, acne and black heads. It tends to feel very greasy and is thick in texture and looks shiny. It is caused due to over activity of the oil producing sebaceous glands and can be combated by various natural treatments.

How to get rid of oily skin woes?
A diet comprising of excessive carbohydrates, fats and sugar stimulates the secretion of oil. Therefore, it is important for you to refrain from eating too much fried food, creamy substances like cake, pastries and confectionaries and limit the intake of chocolates and alcohol.

Cleansing: A thorough cleansing routine is a must for oily skin. However, in your attempt to get rid of the grease and dirt you should avoid running down your skin every time. Cleansing your facial skin should be limited to a maximum of three times a day as excessive washing can stimulate your skin to produce more oil. Use a gentle face wash for cleaning your face that enables you to get rid of dirt and oil without robbing away moisture. Hot water should be used for washing the face as it dissolves skin oils better than cold water.

Face packs for oily skin: After a thorough cleansing routine, you can apply a papaya face pack to combat oily skin. Mix 2 tbsp of papaya pulp with a few drops of lemon juice and apply it to the face. Wash off after 20 minutes. A pack made out of fuller’s earth and rosewater is also highly beneficial for treating oily skin.
