How to Boost Your Metabolism?

  • Most of the people want to boost their metabolism so they can burn fat more effectively. Due to poor metabolism many people are overweight. Basal metabolic rate or BMR is the rate at which your body burns calories to perform its normal functions of digestion, breathing, circulation etc. This means that overweight people burn fewer calories a day, this adds up to stored fat.

    When your body does not get its daily requirement to perform its normal functions, it slows down the metabolic rate. Normally the protective function of the human body is to survive. So when the body identifies that it is not getting enough calories, it will start slowing down all its functions such as digestion, circulation and breathing, so that it does not burn up as many calories. The larger the size of a person, the more calories he will need to maintain the body’s daily functions.  Men usually need more calories than women.

    Boost your metabolism

    Look for better ways to be active. Do not park closer to your store, park as far from the store as you can. Do not use elevator, etc to go up stairs.

    Do not your skip meals.  Do not skip your breakfast!  Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you are starving because you haven’t had food for a long time. In response, as a protective mechanism, your metabolism slows down.

    Do some type of aerobic exercise such as walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, aerobics, etc. on a daily basis for about half an hour, preferably in the morning.  Do exercise daily; when you are active your metabolism will work out. If possible do an additional 15 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise in the evening at least five days a week.

    Include a time gap into most of your aerobic sessions. Intervals are very important tool to help boost your metabolism.  Intervals mean adding a short duration of 1 minute aerobic activity every 10 minutes into your regular exercise routine.

    Tone your muscles with weight training at least six days per week. Toned muscles supercharge your metabolism well. This should be done soon after an aerobic exercise session. You must exercise each body part three times per week. This can be achieved at a gym or at home with a few sets of dumbbells.
