  • Amenorrhea is a medical condition used to describe  the absence of menstruation in women. It is estimated that around 2-5 % of women suffer form this disorder in the United States. There are two types of amenorrhea- Primary amenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea.

Primary amenorrhea is a condition which takes place when a girl is unable to have her first period by the age of 16 years. This can be caused due to various factors such as anorexia, over exercising, ovulation abnormalities, stress, thyroid disorders, genetic abnormalities, obesity or pituitary disease.

Secondary amenorrhea is a condition in which a woman who has had her periods fails to have them again or faces irregularities in the menstrual cycle along with absent periods. The main causes of this are pregnancy, premature menopause, hormonal fluctuations, lactation, obesity, intake of birth control pills, depression, stress and weight changes.

    Natural treatment for amenorrhea:

The best way to treat this condition is by making some changes in your diet and lifestyle pattern along with the intake of some herbal remedies.

Relaxation: Stress and mental tension can result in amenorrhea. Therefore, it is essential for you to take out time for relaxation and perform some deep breathing exercises and meditate. This brings about a feeling of calmness and helps relax the body and mind.

Avoid over exercising: Exercising on a regular basis is healthy for your body but over exercising can lead to amenorrhea. You must restrict your exercise sessions to 15-30 minutes a day and refrain from working out to the extent of exhaustion.

Yarrow: This herb is also known as Achillea millefolium and contains high amount of zinc. It is recommended for the treatment of amenorrhea and can be taken as herbal tea, tincture or capsule.

Regunova Plus herbal capsules can be taken on a regular basis to treat both primary and secondary amenorrhea. This herbal formula is helpful for dealing with all types of menstrual problems in women and helps tone the female reproductive organs.

Blue Cohosh: This herb is also known as Caulophyllum thalictroides and has been widely used in Native American medicine to treat amenorrhea. It is a popular emmenagogue that contains the phytochemical calulopsponin and induces menstruation by stimulating contractions and promoting the flow of blood to the pelvis.

Mother wort: This herb is a popular emmenagogue, sedative and nervine tonic that helps regulate menstruation by calming the central nervous system and stimulating pelvic contractions.

      Hello Nim

You are suffering from secondary amenorrhea. In this disease menstrual cycles cease in a female having normal menstrual history. The reason for secondary amenorrhea may be hormonal imbalance, PCOS, anemia, chronic weakness etc. You should take good nutritional diet. Increase your water intake and start with the regular course of Ashoka and Regunova Plus to cure your secondary amenorrhea naturally. Both these medicines are natural and safe. A regular three to four months course gives satisfactory results.

      Hi,
      Thanks for the information.

However , was wondering the effect of these on the chances re-occurance of PCOD , since my wife was treated for PCOD and undergone laproscopy (Jan09) . I was informed by the Docs that PCOD will re-appear after 1year or 2years of laproscopy as there is no permanent cure .

So, what if PCOD appears in near future(as its almost year of operation) and taking these tablets(for treatment of amenorrea) help in removing PCOD too ? or PCOD has to be treated separately and PCOD treatment will not overlap with the treatment of amenorrea and have side effects?

      Please help me understand this

      Thanks
      Uvais

I read the following about the treatment of secondary amenorrea (stoppage of menstruation) , that it will start again the menstruation . This is home remedy suggested in many websites

      ———————————————–
The use of ginger is another effective home remedy for menstrual disorders, especially in cases of painful menstruation and stoppage of menstrual flow. A piece of fresh ginger should be pounded and boiled in a cup of water for a few minutes. The infusion, sweetened with sugar, should be used thrice daily after meals as a medicine for treating this condition.
