How to cure Common cold?

  • Acute coryza or acute viral nasopharyngitis is better-known as a common cold. It is due to an inflammation of the upper respiratory tract generally caused by picornaviruses. A common cold occurs more frequently than any other minor disease. A person of any age group may suffer from a common cold many times in a year. A common cold normally lasts from four to ten days. The person feels miserable for the first four days or so.

    Common Cold Symptoms

    This disease normally begins in the throat and nose, it then affects all parts of the body. The color of the skin around the nostrils may become sore. Common symptoms are runny nose, sore throat, congestion of nasal passage, coughing and sneezing; sometimes accompanied by a rise in temperature, loss of appetite, ‘pink eye’, fatigue, muscle aches, malaise, muscle weakness and headaches.

    Causes of Common cold

    A person gets infected with common cold due to exposure to the virus. Its intensity, however, depends upon the environmental factors and state of health of the person. The other important contributory general cause of common cold are exposure to cold, Low vitality, mental depression, fatigue, lack of sleep and factors such as dust, sudden change in temperature and other irritating inhalation from the surrounding.

    Home remedies for Common cold.

    Lemon
    One lemon juice should be diluted in a cup of warm water and a table spoon of honey should be added to it. This should be taken twice daily. It decreases toxicity, increases body resistance and decreases the duration of the illness.

    Tulsi (Holy Basil) supplements also promotes optimum respiratory support. It has expectorant properties, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and is helpful in respiratory tract infections. It is useful for respiratory stress.


    Garlic

    Five to six drops of garlic oil added with a tablespoon of onion juice and diluted in a cup of warm water, should be drunk three times a day. It helps to open up the respiratory passage.

    Ginger
    Add a few pieces of ginger into hot water before adding the tea leaves. It may be taken twice daily. Sugar can be added for taste.
