  • Boils are also called furuncles and are caused on the skin due to infection of the hair follicles resulting in the accretion of pus and dead tissue. Boils are caused when the staphylococcus germs penetrate the sweat glands or hair follicles. Individual boils are bad enough, but a cluster of interconnected boils called carbuncles can also develop.

In severe cases, the boils go on to form abscesses that are extremely painful and agonizing. Boils can be transmitted from an infected person to a healthy one by direct contact and are mostly found on the neck, back, shoulders, face, lips, eyes, thighs, stomach and hips but can develop on any other part of the body as well.

These pus filled red lumps that are tender and extremely painful to touch are primarily caused due to increased toxicity levels of the body, poor hygiene and intake of a faulty diet. At first, a boil makes an appearance in the form of a painful red nodule that grows bigger and breaks down in the center for pus to accumulate. The pus filled center looks yellow or white and causes a great deal of itching and discomfort. In case of severe infection, multiple boils may form causing fever and swollen lymph nodes.

    Treatment for boils:

Treatment of boils must aim at decreasing blood toxicity and by consuming a nutritious diet. A warm water enema should be administered for cleaning the bowels. The diet of an individual suffering from boils should comprise of raw fruits and vegetables and whole grain cereals. Tea, coffee, candies, chocolates, starchy and sugary foods and pickles and condiments should be avoided.

Onions and garlic: Roasted onions can be used as poultice to indolent boils. It helps them to mature and burst faster. You can also swallow 1 tsp of onion seeds with a glass of water every morning on an empty stomach. They are potent blood purifiers and help reduce the toxicity level of the system. Garlic juice can be applied topically on the boils to help mature them and drain the pus.

Bitter gourd; This is a powerful blood purifier and attacks the bacterial infection from within. Take about 1 cup fresh bitter gourd juice and add 1 tsp of lime juice to it. Drinking this for a few days on an empty stomach speeds up the recovery process of boils.

Betel leaves: These are also highly beneficial for the treatment of boils. Take a large betel leaf and heat it gently. Once it softens, coat it with a layer of castor oil. Spread the oiled leaf over the inflamed part and keep replacing it after an interval of few hours. This will cause the boil to rupture leading to the evacuation of pus.
