How to treat dysentery naturally?
Dysentery or bloody flux is a disorder of the digestive tract which is characterized by the inflammation of the large intestine and is accompanied by severe colic pain, formation of ulcers and passage of liquid or semi formed stools. Mucus and blood can also be present in the feces.
Dysentery is caused by protozoa and bacilli and can be acute or chronic in nature. Acute dysentery is characterized by pain in the abdomen, diarrhea and loose motions. At times only yellowish white mucus and blood from ulcers is present in the feces. The evacuations are preceded by pain and tenesmus. The patient feels a constant desire to evacuate, although there may be nothing to expel except for mucus and blood. In dysentery all the digestive processes are disturbed and the secretions are either stopped or changed. The saliva becomes acidic and the gastric juice becomes alkaline.
Natural treatment for dysentery:
The treatment of dysentery should aim at removing the toxic substances from the intestines and at alleviating the painful symptoms. Castor oil can be given to the patient as emulsion for facilitating the removal of toxic matter from the intestines. It helps minimize the strain during excretion and acts as a lubricant on the ulcerative surfaces.
The diet of an individual suffering from dysentery is of great importance. Semi solid foods such as bananas, pomegranates, rice, curd, ripe bael fruit and skimmed milk should be given. Solid foods should be introduced carefully and gradually.
Bael fruit is exceptionally beneficial for treating dysentery naturally. The pulp of bael fruit should be mixed with jaggery and given to the patient thrice a day for best results. Alternatively, you can also roast the unripe fruit over fire and mix the pulp with water. Give large quantities of this infusion along with jaggery to the patient.
Lemon juice is also quite beneficial for treating dysentery. Take a few lemons and peel them and slice them. Add them to 250 ml water and boil for a few minutes on low flame. Strain and drink the infusion 3-4 times a day for quick relief from mild forms of dysentery.
Onions are also quite helpful in combating dysentery effectively. Take an onion and chop it finely. Add it to a bowl of curd with equal quantity of tender leaves of peepal tree, coriander leaves and sugar. Take this once a day to treat dysentery.
