Liver Care at Home
The liver is responsible for concurrently performing several important functions in the body. It produces bile, rids the body of toxic waste materials, makes cholesterol, and creates proteins. All of these processes work to digest food, repair tissue damage, build new tissue, and store energy.
In addition to all of its important functions, the liver also possesses the incredible ability to repair itself when injured. It is no wonder that the liver is thought to be one of the most intelligent organs of the body.
Cirrhosis of the liver
Four main liver disorders exist and cirrhosis of the liver encompasses all of them. Cirrhosis of the liver is considered a severe hepatic disorder in which the liver reduces in size, then becomes solid, hard, and leather-like. The reduction in size is caused by the loss of too many cells; so many that they can’t be easily replaced. If the liver continues in this disordered state, hepatic failure can result and lead to death.
Causes of liver disorders
The main causes of liver disorders are excessive alcohol intake, excessive use of quinine for prolonged periods, chronic hepatitis (both viral and autoimmune), obstruction of the bile ducts, and cystic fibrosis (or other inherited diseases).
Symptoms of liver disorders
The most common symptoms of liver disorders are fluid retention, tiredness, weight loss, abdomen pain, and skin disorders.
