  • Cervical spondylosis is a degenerative disease caused due to deterioration of the intervertebral disc and resultant pressure on the cervical nerve roots or cervical spinal cord. This disease is the outcome of the narrowing up of space between the cervical vertebrae leading to the compression of nerves.

Cervical spondylosis is characterized by distressing and severe pain which may branch out to both sides of the shoulders, back of the neck, collar bone and head. In some cases, the pain may occur in both the arms and fingers. Cervical spondylosis is accompanied by stiffness that may be acute or chronic in nature. Other symptoms of the disease include numbness, tingling or complete loss of sensation on the affected side, headache and dizziness. Cervical spondylosis can be caused by injury, incorrect posture, mental strain resulting in muscular spasm and lack of exercise. Stress caused by sitting in one position for a long time, improper lifting of weights and sleeping in the wrong position can also cause this condition.

    Treatment for Cervical spondylosis:
    Improve posture:
In order to deal with this condition, the foremost thing for you to do is improve your posture. Avoid sitting or sleeping in an odd position and try to keep your back upright. If your job requires you to sit for long periods of time in one position, try standing up or doing some neck exercises after every hour. This helps reduce the strain on the cervical region, increases circulation and decreases pain and stiffness of the neck.

Exercise: Regular exercise increases the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the spinal disc, thereby delaying the process of deterioration. Try walking, swimming, yoga and aerobics for treating this condition.

Sleep well: Avoid sleeping on a soft mattress and use a firmer one instead. It is recommended for you to use a thin pillow or avoid using one altogether in order to combat this disease.

Massage: This helps ease neck stiffness and pain and increases blood circulation. Arthcare oil is one of the best massage oils available for treating this condition.

Diet: If you are suffering from cervical spondylosis, you must increase your intake of proteins and Vitamin C that are required for the development and maintenance of healthy bones. Phosphorus, vitamin D, calcium and trace minerals should also be taken.

Boswellia or Shallaki is one of the best herbal remedies for dealing with all musculo-skeletal problems including cervical spondylosis. It helps alleviate pain through its potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties and can be taken on a daily basis in the form of Boswellia herbal dietary supplements.

Garlic: Chew 2-3 cloves of garlic in the morning to treat this condition naturally. You an also rub garlic oil on the affected area and massage with it on a daily basis for at least 15 days. Garlic herbal supplementary capsules can also be taken on a daily basis to combat this disease.

Lime juice: Take the juice of 1 lime and add it to a glass of water along with salt. Having this 2-3 times helps relieve pain.
