  • Diarrhea is the frequent passage of loose or watery, unformed stools. It is a common ailment caused by dietary errors and can be acute or chronic in nature. The main causes of diarrhea include overeating, putrefaction in the intestinal tract, nervous irritability, intake of wrong foods, fermentation caused by incomplete digestion of carbohydrates, viral or bacterial infection, intestinal parasites, food allergies and intake of certain drugs. Certain organic diseases affecting the small or large intestine such as the sprue syndrome, malignant disease or ulcerative colitis can also cause diarrhea.

Chronic diarrhea can result in the weakening of the body due to loss of vitamins and other nutrients and dehydration. Diarrhea is accompanied by stomach ache, griping, nausea, high temperature, frequent passage of loose stools and loss of appetite.
