Natural remedies for Diphtheria

  • The term Diphtheria literally means leather. It is a severe infection of the respiratory passages and is a common childhood disease. Diphtheria is highly contagious in nature and is caused by certain germs in the throat. This disease can strike at any point of time but is most common in the winter season.

    Diphtheria is often mild and uncertain and during its early stages, it resembles tonsillitis. It is accompanied by fever, fatigue, depression, high pulse rate and sore throat. A membrane appears on one or both tonsils which gradually increases in size. It may be thick or thin and is surrounded by red inflammation. This membrane my also expand towards the entire back of the throat and soft palate and towards the nose or larynx. Diphtheria can also occur without the presence of the membrane characterized by red and swollen tissues and the presence of bacilli.

    Diphtheria is caused by an organism known as corynebacterium diphtheriae that multiplies in the throat or nose. Diphtheria can cause anemia and fatigue and if left untreated, may result in high levels of toxicity.

    Natural cure for Diphtheria:
    Orange juice and water should be given to the patient at regular intervals to combat this condition effectively. This increases the energy levels of the body, promotes resistance against diseases increases urination and promotes a speedy recovery.

    The patient should be kept  on bed rest and in isolation from others for a period of 4-6 weeks.

    Moist hot inhalation is highly beneficial in treating this condition. It maintains the resistance of tissues and enables the separation of the membrane. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil helps relieve the nostrils.

    Garlic is an excellent herbal remedy for treating Diphtheria. Chewing raw garlic cloves helps remove the membranes, brings down the body temperature and provides quick relief to the patient. Garlic or Lasuna herbal dietary supplements can be taken on a daily basis to prevent and combat this condition effectively.

    Fresh pineapple juice is also highly beneficial for dealing with this condition. Give small quantities of fresh pineapple juice to the patient at regular intervals. This helps separate the membrane and eliminates the toxic deposits from the throat.

    Curled dock is a powerful herb that is useful in the treatment of Diphtheria. Taking it in the dried from helps fasten the recovery process.
