The problem of chapped dry lips is commonly prevalent among people. The skin in most parts of the body generates natural oils that protect these parts from cold breeze as well as lower humidity. The lips are not having such a facility; hence, they get dry/ cracked. Such lips bleed; they appear rough, red and dried. They are painful and require licking the lips frequently to make them moist.

What causes chapped lips?

Some of the reasons that cause dry chapped lips are too much of exposure to cold or heat, windy conditions, allergies to cosmetics, infections, dehydration, drugs, using soaps and chemicals more frequently.

Drink a lot of water so that you can avoid getting chapped dry lips. Your body should always be hydrated; otherwise deficiency of water will cause dry lips. Applying petroleum jelly or lip balm before going to sleep will help in keeping your lips smooth. Applying butter or ghee helps in treating capped lips. Soak some rose petals in raw milk overnight; crush them to form a paste; apply on the lips thereby removing the dryness from the lips and also helping in your lips becoming pink.

Milk cream can wipe out the dead skin from your lips and keep it smooth. Wipe cut cucumber on the dry lips. Prepare neem leaves juice and apply on your lips. Apply the gel of aloe vera on your lips. Deficiency in Vitamin A causes chapped dry lips; take vitamin A rich foods such as carrots, tomatoes, green and leafy vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nutritional yeast. Apply the mixture of glycerin (1 tsp) and honey (some drops) and leave for overnight. This will soften your lips.

Put castor oil to make your lips smooth. Apply moisturizer or sunscreen balm. Women can wear lipstick that is moisturizer-based. Grind rose petals and mix with glycerin to retain moisture and color. Do not wet your lips with your tongue; this will make your lips dark. Instead apply moisturizer.
