Natural remedies for gout

  • Gout is the inflammation and swelling of the joints. It is chronic in character but manifests itself in acute attacks accompanied by severe pain in the big toe which tends to become tender and swollen within a few hours. Gout can also attack other joints of the body such as the wrists, knees and elbows and may even affect more than one joint at the same time. An attack of gout generally lasts from 5 days to one week and is accompanied by slight fever, loss of appetite and fatigue.

    Gout is caused by the formation of uric acid crystals in the joints, skin and kidneys. Uric acids usually remains un-dissolved in the blood but when it is present in excess it results in the formation of needle like crystals in the joints which are responsible for bringing about acute attacks of gout. Other factors responsible for causing gout are heredity, excessive intake of alcohol, lack of exercise, stress and excessive intake of proteins and carbohydrates.

    Natural cure for gout:

    The patient must avoid all foods containing purine and uric acid such as meats, eggs, fish, tea, coffee, white flour, canned, processed and spicy foods.

    Cherry is one of the most effective natural remedies for treating gout. Taking 15-25 cherries on a daily basis keeps gout attacks at bay.

    Foods high in potassium such as potatoes, bananas, green leafy vegetables, beans and raw vegetable juices protect the body against gout.

    Carrot juice, beet juice and cucumber juice can be mixed in equal quantities and taken on a daily basis to combat gout.

    Arthcare oil is an effective natural cure for gout that can be massaged on the affected area on a daily basis. It helps alleviate pain and swelling and strengthens the joints.
