  • The commencement of menstruation signifies the beginning of the reproductive stage in a young woman’s life.  Around the age of twelve, the ovaries of a young lady start producing large quantities of estrogen.  The ovaries contain two very important female sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone.  The increased production of these hormones promotes physical changes and causes young ladies to develop into normal young women capable of giving birth to children.

Along with menstrual flow come the problems of pre-menstrual tension, painful menstrual periods, inadequate menstrual flow, and/or excessive menstrual flow.  These disorders are quite common and can be treated successfully in most cases.

    Causes of menstrual problems
Some of the main causes of menstrual problems are hormone imbalances and other hormone disorders, anemia, disease and serious illnesses, fibroids, and ovarian cysts.

    Symptoms of menstrual problems
Among the common symptoms of menstrual problems are inadequate menstrual flow, excessive menstrual flow, stoppage of menstrual flow, painful menstrual periods, anxiousness, bloating, irritability, cramps, tension, headaches, backaches, depression, full, painful breasts, insomnia, and skin disorders.

    Home remedies for Menstrual Problems
There are several good home remedies for improving your menstrual problems.

Drink 75 ml of parsley juice mixed with an equal amount of beet juice.  This mixture increases menstruation, relieves cramps, and promotes regularity of menstrual cycles; pound and then boil 1 piece of fresh ginger in 1 cup of water.  Add sugar and use 3 times each day after meals to alleviate painful periods.

Take ½ tsp of sesame seed powder with hot water twice a day to reduce spasmodic pain.
Take 1 tablespoon of marigold twice a day to reduce the pain associated with periods.
Cook 1 banana flower and add 1 cup of curd.  Consume the combination to decrease bloating.

    Diets
Follow a fruits-only diet for 5 days, eating fresh fruits three times a day.  If too much weight loss should occur while on this diet, add 1 glass of milk to each meal; after the fruit diet, develop a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, raw vegetables, and wholegrain cereals.

    Helpful Tips
Add 1 bengal gram plant to hot water for a soothing steam bath, add 1 handful of crushed sesame seeds to warm bath water, try to reduce the amount of stress in your life, get plenty of sleep each night, and drink plenty of water each day (8 to 10 glasses).
