The most common symptom that you just can’t afford to miss is the frequent scratching of head. That is the reason for anyone to detest this parasite, though it depends on your blood for its survival.
Though it is most common among school-going young children, adults are not always spared. It is highly infectious and easily gets transferred under head to head contact, the reason you see it most often among school children that are always playful with their pals. Even if you accidentally happen to share the pillow of an infected child, you may just acquire it and keeping scratching your head like a monkey.
The most common cause for lice is unkempt untidy hair, particularly long hair that offers a stretched playground to them. Some people get infected with it at periodical intervals around the same part of the year. It breeds faster under humid conditions. If left untreated for long it causes small red patches on the scalp, at times extending to other parts of upper body. One should be careful to avoid sharing clothing, bed and combs with an infected person.
Apart from commercial formulations available in the form of shampoos and creams, here are a few home made treatments to get rid of this nasty parasite.
A very effective and not so taxing on your time method is to apply the juice of an onion on your scalp, leave it there for 2-3 hours and then wash it thoroughly with shampoo. If you find it too strong smelling, apply a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar in equal ratio. Let it remain there for an hour or two before rinsing your hair and applying shampoo, followed by a thorough wash.
