Symptoms and Treatment of Gastritis

  • Gastritis is a condition in which the stomach lining becomes inflamed, causing lesions, pain, and discomfort.  The causes of gastritis vary greatly, from smoking cigarettes to suffering from an underlying illness (such as lupus).

    Causes

    • Drinking excess amounts of tea or coffee

    • Excessive alcohol intake

    • Stress

    • Giddiness

    • Headache

    • Stomach ache

    • A coated tongue

    • Bad breath

    • A bad taste in the mouth

    • Infrequent urination

    • Depression

    • Heartburn

    • Constipation

    Coconut water – coconut water contains many vitamins and minerals.  It will help the stomach return to its normal state.  The water should be drunk several times over a 24 hour period (as a fast). Potato juice – drink half a cup of potato juice two to three times a day, 30 minutes before eating a meal.

    Rice gruel – one cup of rice gruel should be ingested twice a day.  This will help induce the gastric juices to flow more easily.  Marigold – take one tablespoon of marigold twice a day.

    Recommended diet for gastritis

    Fast for two to three days, ingesting only warm water.  This allows the stomach to rest and helps reduce inflammation.  After the fast, embark on an all fruit diet for three days.  Eat fruits such as apples, pears, grapefruit, peaches, and melons. After the fruit diet, follow a well-balanced diet that includes foods such as seeds, nuts, fruits, grains, and green vegetables.

    Helpful Tips

    Restrict alcohol and tobacco consumption.  Avoid the use of all spices, meats, peppers, pickles, tea, coffee, and sweets.  Drink plenty of water (8 to 10 glasses each day).  Do not drink water with meals as it slows digestion.    Eat your food slowly and chew it thoroughly. Use warm water enemas each day for a week to clean out the bowels. Exercise lightly. Use hot compresses when needed, and only when your stomach is empty.
