  • For whatever reasons when our body fails to retain its moisture, the skin begins to look dried up and rough. Such a situation occurs when our internal mechanism is unable to produce the required amount of oil needed to keep the skin moistened, due to inefficient working of oil producing glands.

Make a few changes in your dietary habits to control the situation and gradually come out of it. Here are a few measures you should adopt to overcome this problem: -
    1. You should know that water is essentially the most common and vital moisturizing agent. Increase your intake of water. It is a healthy practice to consume 6-8 glasses of water daily.
    2. Do away with alcoholic drinks and restrict your intake of beverages that contain caffeine. Such drinks are known to cause dryness of your skin.
    3. Massage your face 2-3 times a week with a mixture of glycerin and rose water. This helps to remove dead cells on the skin thus improving its texture.
    4. Take plentiful of natural coolants like coriander, turmeric, and cumin seeds. These not only cool you but add flavor to food also.
    5. Include fruits in your regular daily diet as they contain sugars and moisturizers too.
    6. Minimize the application of chemicals on your body. Go for natural ingredients for facial makeup. Look around for natural cleansers for your body rather than applying chemically formulated soaps. All the externally applied chemicals in any form reduce the moisture content.
    7. Another important preventive measure you should take is to save yourself from direct sunrays. Find ways to keep yourself away from polluted air.
Apart from above, here are a few homemade remedies that you may find beneficial.

A very effective and natural moisturizer is honey. For soft and glowing skin apply a face pack of honey mixed with rose water in a ratio of one to three. Let the pack be on your face for nearly ten minutes before washing it off with fresh water.

Another good natural moisturizer is Cucumber. Mashed cucumber makes a good face pack, particularly in summers.

Apples too could be employed to make a face pack. Minerals present in apples contribute towards revitalization of skin. You can make a paste of grated apples and use that as a face pack.
