What are the sore throat symptoms?

Sore throats have various symptoms. Proper treatment based on understanding the cause of the sore throat. Symptoms of sore throat throughout the body include fever, headache, malaise and nausea. These may be present with either a bacterial or viral infection. There is no simple method to distinguish a viral sore throat from a bacterial sore throat. Viral sore throats are usually contagious and they can be spread by sneezing, coughing and by personal contact.

Flu and cold viruses are normally responsible for sore throat. Symptoms associated with viral infection include fever, runny nose, congestion, cough and hoarseness. The level of pain may vary considerably. It may be quite very severe or mild. The patient may not be able to breathe, swallow, speak or eat in the worst cases.

Herpangina occurs usually among children under the age group of ten. This disease usually found during the summer so it is known as summer sore throat.

The symptoms associated with this severe disease, summer sore throat include high fever and the presence of tiny grayish-white blisters on the throat and mouth. These blisters often break open and cause severe pain. These patients may vomit; they may have abdominal pain, and, generally, feel very sick.

Mononucleosis is a very common disease among Americans by age forty. Associated symptoms are mild and the disease usually clears up quickly, still it can produce a very painful sore throat.

The adenoviruses normally affect the lungs and ears. The symptoms associated with this condition include fever, runny nose, cough, hoarseness, congestion, white bumps on the tonsils and throat, vomiting, diarrhea and a rash. Sore throats caused by these viruses may last about one week.

Main signs of sore throat include pus on the surface of the tonsils, redness of the oropharynx, tender neck glands or inflamed lymph nodes, spitting or drooling, difficulty breathing and vesicles in the oral cavity. Even though, two-thirds of people with sore throat have only redness with no pus on the tonsils.
